Ala Moana Sewer Work Begins

General contractor Frank Coluccio Construction began sewer work on Ala Moana Boulevard on Jan. 10.

The approximately $8.9 million Ala Moana Boulevard Sewer Reconstruction project consists of open-cut trench/microtunnel work on 2,700 linear feet of 12 and 16-inch cast iron pipe from Atkinson Drive to Nauru Tower, along with the installation of eight new manholes. The sewer line will be installed on the left-hand lane heading Ewa-bound on Ala Moana Boulevard.

“We’re fulfilling our promise and commitment to repair our long-neglected sewer system with these major capital investments,” Mayor Mufi Hannemann said. “We will continue to devote our resources to improving our overall island infrastructure with projects like this.”

While the project has been planned to minimize traffic disruptions, motorists on Ala Moana Boulevard and connecting streets should be prepared for delays during evening and early morning hours.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 months. Road restoration work will be funded by the state Department of Transportation.
