Sluggish First Quarter
Better Days Ahead
A slow start to the year produced a first quarter agency total of $83,062,305 in contracts awarded. That’s $84.15 million behind last year’s pace and has some contractors understandably concerned. But positive news is on the way.
By the time this magazine is printed, bids for two big jobs should have been opened in April. They are a $10 million Campbell High School job from the DOE and a DOT job worth $70 million for a Honolulu Airport maintenance facility. May is expected to see bids opened for the $10 million Hilo Agriculture Research Center and a $20 million energy power facility at Honolulu Airport, while the month should also see work advertised for a new $40 million school to be built in Wailuku, Maui.
