Joint Installation for Steel
The Hawaii Pacific Steel Framing Alliance (HSA) and Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI), Hawaii chapter, held a joint installation dinner on April 9 at the Building Industry Association of Hawaii Construction Training Center of the Pacific.
The recently installed officers of the HSA include:
• President: Timothy Waite, Simpson Strong-Tie
• Vice President: Colleen Mizuno, Maryl Group
• Secretary: Pat Gill, Sunrise Construction
• Treasurer: Ralph Valentino, Hunt Building Co., Ltd.
Immediate past president is Scott Underwood of Brookfield Homes Hawaii.
The 2010 directors are: Akira Usami, Dietrich Metal Framing; Bobbie Kane, Bobbie Kane Resources; Doug Pearson, Castle & Cooke Homes Hawaii; Julie Lee, Servco Raynor Overhead Doors; Keith Oda, Actus Lend Lease; Kenneth Ancheta, Universal Building, LLC; Robert Lee, Atlas Steel Corp.; and Sam Galante, Steel Truss & Panel, LLC.
Mardie Torres continues to serve as the association’s executive director.
The 2010 CFSEI officers are:
• President: Jeoffrey Cudiamat, Structural Hawaii
• Vice President: Dean Doi, Sato and Associates
• Secretary: Tim Goshi, KAI Hawaii
• Treasurer: Ethan Okuna, Consulting Structural Hawaii
Marvin Mestanza of Wilson Okamoto Corp. is CFSEI’s immediate past president.
The directors are: Dennis Hanatani, Dennis K. Hanatani, Inc.; Ethan Okuna; and Glenn Isidro, NAVFAC (Naval Facilities Engineering Command) Hawaii.
Other highlights of the event were rail presentations by Alicia Maluafiti of Loihi Communications, a spokesperson for Go Rail Go, and Kirk Caldwell, managing director of the City & County of Honolulu.
In his speech as the “lucky 13” president of HSA, Waite (who helped found the HSA and served as its executive director for the first four years) issued a call to action: “I would like to challenge all our members to get back to our roots, our ohana, and give back to the alliance that helped grow your businesses in steel framing. What we invest in time today, like we did 13 years ago, will pay off in more steel business in the near future.”
