BIA Encourages Homeowners to go Green
The Building Industry Association of Hawaii’s (BIA) 2009 Remodel it Right Expo was held between July 31 and Aug. 2 at the Hawaii Convention Center. This year’s theme was “Remodel it Right, Remodel it Green.”
The purpose of the annual event is to help homeowners find inspiration and ideas to help them achieve their building and remodeling dreams, while being respectful of the environment.
Besides the more than 150 exhibitor booths, special features included the Remodel It Right panel and Remodel It Right green panel. The panels allow attendees to learn the key building blocks of planning the renovation of a single room or an entire home. This year, the panels were conducted in a casual roundtable setting, and a free remodeling planning kit was given to each family attending the panel presentations.
At the Meet the Experts interactive group discussions, homeowners were given the chance to ask questions and learn from the industry’s top professionals.
“Since approximately 80 percent of Oahu homes are over 50 years old and could benefit from a remodeling project, our goal is to provide homeowners with collaborative opportunities to talk story and learn all about eco-friendly living by meeting the professional representatives from each major segment of the remodeling industry,” says Karen T. Nakamura, executive vice president and CEO of BIA Hawaii.
