New Officers Take Helm of AIA
The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter (AIA Honolulu)
installed its 2008 board of directors during its kick-off party and installation
banquet on Jan. 28 at the Pacific Club.
The officers are:
• President: Sidney C.L. Char, AIA, of WATG (Wimberly Allison Tong
& Goo)
• Vice President/President-Elect: Jeffrey Nishi, AIA, of Jeffrey
Nishi & Associates/Architects
• Secretary: William Brizee, AIA, of Architects Hawaii, Ltd.
• Treasurer: Stanford Lee, AIA, Next Design LLC

These men will serve as the four-member executive committee.
At-large directors for 2008 include: David Akinaka, AIA, Ferraro Choi and Associates; Joy Davidson, AIA, Mason Architects, Inc.; Kendall Ellingwood III, AIA, Design Partners; Terry McFarland, AIA, Architects Hawaii, Ltd.; Linda Miki, AIA, Group 70 International, Inc.; Troy Miyasato, AIA, MBA, Ferraro Choi and Associates; Karen Sakamoto-Sato, AIA, Next Design LLC; and Shaun Ushijima, AIA, Ushijima Architects, Inc.
Terrance Cisco, AIA, of Dinsmore & Cisco Architects, Inc. continues as Hawaii Island section director. Michael Harvey, Associate AIA, of Edge Consulting Hawaii was elected as associate, representing AIA Honolulu’s emerging architects and design professionals.

Peter Vincent, AIA, of Peter Vincent Architects is the immediate past president and Amy Blagriff continues to serve as executive vice president.
In his outgoing president’s message, Vincent presented the presidential awards, recognizing several AIA members for their exemplary service to the association and to the profession of architecture. Architects receiving awards were: Richard M. Myers, AIA; John D. Fulmer, AIA; Stephen E. Nash, AIA; Joy Davidson, AIA; John A. Black, AIA; William A. Brizee, AIA; Kari L. Kimura, AIA; Joseph J. Ferraro, AIA; David S. Bylund, AIA; Patrick T. Onishi, AIA; and Keith M. Tanaka, AIA.

In his inaugural speech, Char said that even though there have been many great strides in technology, it cannot replace ideas, vision, passion and leadership. Among Char’s responsibilities for 2008 is organizing the Oct. 7-10, 2008, AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Conference. An estimated 400 AIA members from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Japan and Hong Kong will join AIA members from Hawaii at the four-day conference and annual expo.
